Welcome to Girl Power Day 2015
Model This: "Be Your Best YOU!"
featuring Bonnie St. John, Paralympic Champion, Rhodes Scholar, Award-winning author
This is our 5th Girl Power Day, and we are so excited to bring it to our community! If you have attended past Girl Power Days, we are thrilled you are back. If this is your first Girl Power Day, get ready for an exhilarating afternoon of self-discovery, fun, and inspiration.
We have an amazing program planned for this year’s Girl Power Day. Our theme is "Be Your Best YOU!" The day will feature more than two-dozen interactive workshops on such topics as: body image, collaboration and sisterhood, communication, conflict resolution, entrepreneurship, financial literacy, finding your passion, friendship, leadership, media literacy, risk-taking, self-love, self-presentation, stress management, time management, and more. Adults will have their own workshops that will help them support the girls in their lives.
Following the workshop sessions is the Model This keynote speech by Bonnie St. John, who will tell her amazing personal story. Named "One of the five most inspiring women in America" by NBC Nightly News, Bonnie St. John had her right leg amputated at the age of 5 and went on to become the first African-American ever to win Olympic or Paralympic medals in ski racing, taking home 3 medals in downhill events at the 1984 Paralympics in Innsbruck, Austria. Ms. St. John then graduated Magna Cum Laude from Harvard University, won a Rhodes scholarship, earned a Master of Letters in Economics from Oxford University, and served on the White House National Economic Council during the Clinton Administration. Ms. St. John is the author of six books, including her most recent best seller, How Great Women Lead, co-authored with her teenage daughter. She has been featured extensively in both national and international media including: Today, CNN, CBS Morning News, NBC News, PBS, NPR and The New York Times, as well as People, "O" and Essence magazines.
It's going to be a day you won't want to miss!
